The activities of CORNERSTONE researchers will be organized according to a Work Plan consisting of five Work Packages (WPs): a project management work package (WP1), and three technical WPs that will cover data preparation (WP2), computational methods (WP3), and scientific validation of results (WP4).
The first work package WP1 will be in charge of managing the relation with the University of Genova and Tor Vergata to facilitate and accomplish the administrative task needed to the correct development of the project.
The deliverable of WP1 will concern the overall project management and the project administration, together with a reporting action and the consortium meeting organization, which are expected at the end of the two years project.
The deliverable of WP2 will concern the procedure to prepare the historical dataset of features and labels coming from several instruments. At the end of the first year an open access procedure for data handling and preparation is expected.
The deliverables of WP3 will concern the methods used for generating new features and the kernel learning methods implemented to match such features with the observed solar event occurrences. A first deliverable of an open access procedure on feature generating methods is expected at the end of the first year of the project, and a second deliverable of an open access procedure on kernel learning methods adopted in the project at the end of the second year.
The deliverable of WP4 will concern a discussion of the scientific results of the project, together with a report on the dissemination of CORNERSTONE and its results in an ‘open data’, ‘open software’, ‘open science’ perspective. In particular WP4 will deliver a proposal for the integration of CORNERSTONE into the Italian space weather infrastructure envisioned by the CAESAR project. This deliverable is expected within the end of the project.
Within this WP schema, the deliverables will be:
DEL01 : (WP1) a report the overall project management, the project administration, the consortium meeting organization (24 m)
DEL02 : (WP2) an open access software repository for the data handling software together with a brief description on the historical dataset procedure (12 m)
DEL03 : (WP3) an open access software repository for the feature generating methods (12m)
DEL04 : (WP3) an open access software repository for the kernel learning methods adopted in the project (24m)
DEL05 : (WP4) a report on the scientific results of the project and on the dissemination of CORNERSTONE (24m)
As the main technological product of the project is a software tool, the milestones for project management to check project goal alignment are the following:
MIL 01 : Definition of case studies and available data (0-4m)
MIL 02 : Set up a website and an open access github repository for the project (0-2m)
MIL 03 : Set up a basic software prototype for feature generation (3-10m)
MIL 04 : Set up a basic software prototype for physics based kernel learning (7-14m)
MIL 05 : Check of the case studies (13-16m)
MIL 06 : Verification of the basic performance of the prototype in flare forecasting (11-14m)
MIL 07 : Verification of the basic performance of the prototype in CME and SEP forecasting (11-14m)
MIL 08 : Set up an advanced software prototype for for feature generation (15-20m)
MIL 09 : Set up an advanced software prototype for physics based kernel learning (17-22m)
MIL 10 : Verification and dissemination of the scientific results of the project (21-24m)
